Pet Identification
Microchipping is a simple and permanent way of identifying your pet. A tiny microchip containing a unique identification number is placed under your pet’s skin, helping them to be identified if they are lost or found.
Unlike a collar or tag, a microchip stays with your pet and cannot simply fall off or be accidentally removed. It does not track your pet’s location, it provides a permanent form of identification. For every 125 microchips placed, we donate 7 scanners to trusted organisations to help more pets be identified and reunited with their owners.
If your pet is found, their microchip can be scanned and the unique number used to help identify them and reconnect them with you. Any existing scannable microchip can be linked to the Pet Health Passport.

With Pet Health Passport, your pet’s microchip number can be linked to their unique Pet Health Passport number, creating a connection between their physical identification and digital pet record.
If your pet is found and their microchip is scanned, this connection can help us notify you.
You remain in control of your information. Privacy settings can be adjusted according to your preferences, and you can choose to make information such as your pet’s vaccination records available to your veterinarian when needed.

Already microchipped?
If your pet is already microchipped, there is no need for another one. Simply add their existing microchip number to their Pet Health Passport to connect their identification with their digital record. If you're unsure whether the microchip is still working, ask your veterinarian if they can scan and check it, or pre-book a microchip check at an AWARE Community Day. We use small 2.12mm thick x 12mm long microchips for cats and dogs and smaller 1.25mmx 7mm microchips for smaller pets.
